Sustainable Energy, Real Benefits: How Clean Energy Columbus Empowers You

Clean Energy Columbus is more than just a provider of clean, sustainable energy. We’re committed to delivering real benefits to residents and small businesses. Our mission is rooted in community care, ensuring that the people we serve directly experience the positive impact of our initiatives.

Investing in Clean Energy & Sustainability

The creation of the Clean Energy Columbus program allowed our community to make a shift to clean energy, helping reduce the City’s emissions and improve our environment.

Clean Energy Columbus provides 100% clean, renewable energy to the program with a combination of in-state supply from clean energy projects and Renewable Energy Credits (RECs). This year, a portion of the program will be supported by a local solar project, Atlanta Farms Solar, in Pickaway County.  Many communities use RECs to provide clean energy for their aggregation programs, including cities like Cincinnati, Dayton and Worthington.

The program is working steadily to meet the City’s long-term climate and sustainability goal—to be carbon neutral by 2050—while also offering a competitive rate for electricity in the energy market, so you can save and support a cleaner, greener future.

The Power of Choice

Clean Energy Columbus also provides the benefit of choice. With a vast energy market and many different options for energy supply, the City’s program is intentionally a service to residents and small businesses. The City will always aim to provide the best value program while balancing rates, clean energy, and the benefits to the community. Participation in the Clean Energy Columbus program is 100% voluntary, with no fees or penalties associated with opting in or opting out. It’s your decision.

CEC Program Milestones and What’s Next

As CEC continues to grow, here are the latest updates on the program’s impact and what residents can expect as we look ahead in 2025:

Ohio’s Largest Aggregation Program

Delivering Major Savings and Clean Energy

  • The program has generated savings of over $55 million since inception, and for the current program running through the end of May 2025, participating residents are receiving 100% clean energy and saving about $10 per month for an average household.

Investing in Local Solar Programs

  • Through the program’s community grant, which is built into the rate, the City has reinvested $500,000 to support a pilot Low-Moderate Income Solar Co-Op that will provide 17 homes (targeting the Linden area) with electricity from solar and battery backup.

Upcoming Rate Changes and Market Context

  • Rates, in general, are increasing for everyone in the energy market due to recent capacity auctions for the region, primarily driven by energy demand. These costs appear on all utility bills, regardless of the supplier or plan selected.
