Fall has officially arrived and with it, Clean Energy Columbus (CEC) is celebrating five years of helping power a cleaner, more sustainable future for the City. As the energy landscape evolves, CEC continues to focus on keeping rates competitive, supporting the City’s ambitious climate goals, and driving investment in new renewable infrastructure right here in Ohio.
Progress Made So Far: Five Years of Impact
Since its launch, Clean Energy Columbus has grown into one of the largest municipal clean energy aggregation programs in the nation. More than 200,000 households and small businesses are now powered by 100% renewable energy through CEC.
Together, participants have helped the City cut emissions by about 6.4 million metric tons, the equivalent of taking over 1.4 million cars off the road for a year. Every household’s participation helps drive demand for renewable energy projects here in Ohio, proving how local choices can create a larger impact.
What’s Next: Future Goals and Developments
Looking ahead, CEC is focused on expanding community solar projects and investing in workforce development programs that prepare residents for clean energy careers. These efforts will help the City meet its goal of reducing emissions by 45% by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, ensuring the benefits of the clean energy transition reach every neighborhood.
Residents can also look forward to free Energy Efficiency kits that include essential energy-saving tools like LED lightbulbs, low-flow shower heads, and more. These kits provide simple tools to keep your home running more efficiently and sustainably.
